Possible 2022 Olympic Winter Games Bid Timeline

At this stage of the preparation process, a series of venue choices are under consideration. The ever-changing growth of our region regularly offers new opportunities for possible venues. For instance, the new downtown Reno Triple-A baseball stadium could be a prime location for the medal ceremonies and cultural experiences, including concerts. While a plan of proposed venues is a continuous process, one of the Reno-Tahoe areas greatest strengths is the relative proximity of Games venues in terms of:

  • By Spring 2012 – USOC calls for American Regions statements of interest.

  • Fall 2012 – USOC Technical Team reviews American Regions and invites select cities to bid.

  • Winter 2013 – Invited cities submit bid books to USOC.

  • Spring 2013 – USOC Technical Team critiques bid books.

  • Summer-Fall 2013 – USOC submits American Applicant City into the IOC process.

  • Winter/Spring 2014 – American Applicant City submits initial 50-page Candidature Filing for IOC review.

  • Summer 2014 – IOC accepts some or all of the Applicant Cities as Candidate Cities.

  • Winter 2015 – Candidate Cities submit complete Candidature Filing to IOC.

  • Winter/Spring 2015 – IOC Technical team visits Candidate Cities.

  • Summer/Fall 2015 – IOC announces 2022 Host City.
