You won’t have to look too far down the alphabetical list of golfers playing in next month’s American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Edgewood-Tahoe to find Olympians.
Ray Allen, the second name on the list and a member of the 2000 U.S. Men’s basketball gold medal winning team, is one of 17 Olympians in the 87-player field taking to the Stateline golf course, July 17-22.
Tournament mainstays Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley join Allen and two other U.S. “Dream Teamers” “Penny” Hardaway and Jason Kidd as Olympic basketball players in the field.
But of the 17 total Olympians, hockey players score the most on golf roster. 1980 “Miracle on Ice” captain Mike Eruzione has played in all of the Edgewood celebrity golf tournaments since they started in 1990.
Martin Brodeur, fresh off leading the New Jersey Devils to the Stanley Cup finals will also play as well fellow former hockey stars Brett Hull, Mike Modano, Jeremy Roemick and Joe Sakic.
The most medaled man in U.S. Ski history Bode Miller, speed skater Dan Jansen, boxer Oscar De La Hoya, baseball star Tino Martinez round out the Olympians in the field along with the only woman in the tournament, former U.S. National soccer icon Brandi Chastain.
