Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition (RTWGC) Chief Executive Officer Jon Killoran and Vice Chairman Hawley MacLean recently returned to Reno after attending the SportAccord Convention in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The annual event brings together more than 2,000 representing the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Federation (Ifs)s and other governing bodies of sport as well as event stakeholders and potential host regions, such as Reno-Tahoe.
“Keeping in touch with all of the main stakeholders on the international level is so important to our overall goals for our region,” said MacLean. “Reno-Tahoe has hosted some major international events in the past and will be doing so over the next year. Attending SportAccord allows us to further our potential to add to our growing list of events,.”
Among the other activities taking place during SportAccord were bid presentations from the three Candidate Cities (Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo) in line to host the 2020 Summer Olympiad. But the central mission for Killoran and Maclean was to continue promoting Reno-Tahoe as a world class sports destination.
“Our region has so much to offer many different sports, both winter and summer. That was our main message this year,” said Killoran. “To magnify that message we produced a full page ad which appeared in SportsPro, one of the magazines circulated at SportAccord and with a world-wide audience of sports executives.”
