Over 150 athletes, more than twice as many as last year’s inaugural event, participated in the Silver State Track and Field Championship at Damonte Ranch High School Saturday, June 14. Most of the competitors represented local track and field clubs, but teams also attended from Fernley, Tonopah, Las Vegas and Sacramento.
“We’re excited to have had a big jump in registration for this year’s competition,” said Paul Heglar, RTWGC Community Outreach Director. “More athletes provide more competition which allows all the athletes to push themselves to do their best.”
The track and field event is the first in what the RTWGC plans to grow into a multi-sport annual competition, giving athletes from throughout the state and surrounding regions the opportunity to compete in their favorite sports.
“We want to grow the entire program to become somewhat of an Olympics for “Silver State” athletes,” said Jon Killoran, RTWGC Chief Executive Officer. “Sports are a wonderful way to build character in people of all ages and having fun while competing is what we want to provide Nevadans.”
